PRESENT SIMPLE
Simple present tense adalah salah satu dari beberapa bentuk present tense dalam bahasa Inggris. Tense ini digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan kebiasaan, situasi yang tidak berubah, kebenaran umum, dan jadwal tetap. Simple present tense sangat mudah untuk dibentuk. Gunakan saja kata dasar dari kata kerja: (I take, you take, we take, they take). Bentuk orang ketiga tunggal menggunakan -s di akhir kata dasar. (he takes, she takes)
Simple present tense digunakan:

Untuk menunjukkan kebiasaan, kebenaran umum, tindakan berulang atau situasi yang tidak berubah, emosi, dan harapan:
I smoke (kebiasaan); I work in London (situasi yang tidak berubah); London is a large city (kebenaran umum) -
Untuk memberikan instruksi atau arahan:
You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left. -
Untuk menyatakan jadwal tetap di masa kini maupun masa depan:
Your exam starts at 09.00 -
Untuk menyatakan waktu di masa depan setelah konjungsi: after, when, before, as soon as, until:
He’ll give it to you when you come next Saturday.

Positives/Statements/Affirmatives (S + V1(s/es) + O/C)
1. Hiroshi works for GameZ. He likes his job.
2. Lin Yao works for GameZ, too. She also likes her job.

Negatives (S + DON’T/DOESN’T + V1 + O/C)
1. Christine comes from Berlin, but she doesn’t live there.
2. Robert comes from Scotland, but he doesn’t live there.
3. Christine and Robert work in London, but they don’t live there.
Interogatives/Questions (DO/DOES + S + V1 + O/C?)
1. Do they work at GameZ?
2. Does she come from Berlin?
3. Do you like your job
Catatan mengenai simple present, orang ketiga tunggal

Untuk orang ketiga tunggal, kata kerja selalu diakhiri dengan -s:
he wants, she needs, he gives, she thinks. -
Bentuk negatif dan pertanyaan menggunakan DOES (= bentuk auxiliary ‘DO‘ untuk orang ketiga) + infinitive dari kata kerja.
He wants ice cream. Does he want strawberry? He does not want vanilla. -
Kata kerja yang berakhir dengan -y: Bentuk orang ketiga mengubah -y menjadi -ies:
fly –> flies, cry –> cries
Pengecualian: Jika terdapat huruf vokal sebelum –y:
play –> plays, pray –> prays -
Tambahkan -es ke kata kerja yang berakhir dengan:-ss, -x, -sh, -ch:
he passes, she catches, he fixes, it pushes
